Individualized treatment begins with assessment
Physiotherapy is not a fixed protocol. Treatment planning depends on the patient’s physical health, functional limitations, symptoms, goals, relevant history and the physiotherapist’s professional assessment.
Movement and physical function
Assessment may consider mobility, strength, movement patterns, tolerance for activity and the physical demands of everyday life, work or recreation.
Rehabilitation
Physiotherapy may support rehabilitation following injury, illness, surgery or other changes in physical function when treatment is appropriate for the individual case.
Exercise and self-management
A physiotherapist may use exercise, education and home-care strategies as part of an individualized plan designed around function and treatment goals.
Physical and mechanical approaches
BC’s regulated scope includes preventing, treating and managing diseases, disorders and conditions by physical and mechanical means. The specific interventions used depend on the practitioner and patient.
Clinical scope is practitioner-specific
Not every physiotherapist offers every form of treatment. Some restricted activities require certification or have regulatory limits and conditions. A clinic should describe only services its actual licensees are authorized, competent and equipped to provide.
No website can determine whether treatment is appropriate
Symptoms and functional problems can have many causes. Online information should not replace an individualized assessment by an appropriately qualified health professional.
